Event Details
Gather with us for an afternoon of joy, remembrance, and celebration as we honor Juneteenth with community, culture, and connection. This special event will feature cultural entertainment, a hands-on craft, and a delicious soul food lunch as we reflect on the meaning of freedom and the legacy of Black resilience.
Date: Friday, June 19th
Time: 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Location: Towne View Baptist Church (950 Shiloh Rd, Kennesaw, GA 30144)
Lunch: Fried chicken, a soul food staple, has deep roots in Black American history. This dish, born of resilience, ingenuity, and tradition, will be served alongside classic sides and Juneteenth’s signature red drink. Together, this meal honors the flavors that have nourished generations and celebrates the culture, creativity, and community at the heart of Juneteenth.
Alternative: A vegan option is available for an additional cost for families who select it during registration.
Ages: This event is for everyone—bring the whole family!
🍰 Juneteenth Bake-Off: We’re excited to add a little sweetness to our Juneteenth celebration with a community bake-off! Families are invited to sign up to bring a homemade dessert to be judged and shared with the group afterward.
Dessert traditions have long held an important place in Black American celebrations and gatherings. From pound cakes and peach cobblers to red velvet cake and sweet potato pie, baking has often been a way of expressing creativity, hospitality, joy, and cultural memory within the community. Whether your recipe is a treasured family favorite or something new you’ve been wanting to try, we’d love for you to participate!
🎤 Teen Talent Showcase: We would also love to highlight the gifts and creativity of our teens during the celebration! Teens are invited to participate in our Juneteenth program by sharing a talent or performance with the group. Performances might include:
Singing
Dancing
Playing an instrument
Spoken word or poetry
Dramatic readings
Original music or creative pieces
Juneteenth celebrations have historically included music, storytelling, dance, poetry, and artistic expression as meaningful ways to celebrate freedom, culture, resilience, and community. We would be honored to create space for our teens to continue that tradition by sharing their voices and talents with us.
