At Heritage Homeschoolers, we believe character education is just as important as academics. Volunteerism gives children the opportunity to step outside their world, build compassion, and realize that their time and energy can make a real difference. Heritage Helpers is here to help us do just that—together.

Planting Trees with Trees Atlanta

Join Heritage Homeschoolers and Trees Atlanta for Plantlanta, a citywide volunteer effort that brings hundreds of people together to plant trees and strengthen Atlanta's neighborhoods.

Families will work side by side in Reynoldstown to help expand Atlanta's tree canopy. Volunteer tasks may include digging holes, loosening roots, planting trees, adding mulch, watering, and cleaning the work area. Trees Atlanta will provide the trees, tools, and planting guidance. Be ready to work hard, get dirty, and make a visible difference in the community. Don’t forget gloves!

This is a family volunteer event, and we would especially love to see moms and dads participate with their children. Children learn service best when they see the adults in their lives serving too, so please plan to volunteer together if possible.

Volunteer Details – Register Below

Date: Saturday, November 14, 2026 Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Where to meet:  Please meet at Lang Carson Park. We will be near the playground. We will be planting along Wylie and in the park. The closest address is 971 Wylie Street SE; Atlanta, GA 30316. There is on-site parking and nearby street parking.

Registration Deadline: October 30, 2026

Who Can Volunteer:

  • Open to ages 8+ (No exceptions for younger children!)

  • All minors must be accompanied by an adult

  • 25 volunteer spots are available, including children and adults

What to wear and bring with you:

  • Gloves: Bring your own work gloves.

  • Recommended clothing: Wear clothes and shoes you don't mind getting muddy. Long pants are recommended as you may be kneeling on the ground. All volunteers need closed-toed shoes or boots, and clothes that can get dirty.

  • Tools: Trees Atlanta provides necessary tools, but if you'd like to bring your own, any of the following tools would be helpful: shovels, hand trucks, mattocks, and hand cultivators.

  • Drinking water: We strongly recommend you bring drinking water in reusable containers. No one-time-use plastic bottles, please.

  • Allergy medication: If you've experienced life-threatening allergic reactions to insects, please come prepared with your own emergency medicine, such as an auto-injector or oral medication. Please notify the coordinator of your need for medication in the case of an allergic attack.

  • You may also want: Sunscreen and bug spray as needed, snacks as needed (Trees Atlanta will not provide any of these items).

STEP 1: Sign up here

Each adult and child must register individually so they know how many children and adults to expect (i.e. a family of 4 will use this form 4 times to register each member).

STEP 2: For accounting purposes, please also register here on the Heritage calendar for a ticket of each person you registered in Step #1.

Tree planting is physically demanding, so come prepared to get dirty, work as a team, and break a sweat while making a lasting impact on our environment.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please reach out to Dannielle Gordon at thegordonhousehold@gmail.com or text (850) 339-7288.
